Cycling Clubs...

Postby Daydra on Wed Sep 16, 2009 2:14 pm

Greetings Ladies!

I'm so pleased to have been able to complete my first triathlon with all of you this weekend! You all inspire me to work harder!

Since I'm new to triathlons, and cycling in particular, I want to focus on that part of my training in the off season. Does anyone know if there is either a local cycling club that is "below-average skill level" friendly, or alternatively (and possibly preferably) is interested in getting together periodically to ride during the off-season?

I have a pretty aggressive goal for next year; to cut an hour off my completion time, which means that I need to be serious about training in the fall and winter months and would love to train together during the off-season.

I'd love to hear from you!!

All the best,

Daydra,

I don't know if we are the same skill level, but I plan on doing some indoor work as it gets colder and darker. I have a recumbent stationary bike and a treadmill, as well as some weights. I plan to brick-on-brick with those and could easily have another person alternating with working weights or other strength training if you preferred not to match equal time on the run and bike. We could also walk the extra time to match bike time. I also plan to continue some outdoor training while weather and light permit. Let me know if you'd like to try to get together. I live on the south end of Silverdale.

That sounds awesome, Wendy. I also have indoor options... a bike trainer, an elliptical, and a Weider weight machine. Most of that stuff I don't mind doing on my own, but I would really like to get together with some girls for outside rides perhaps on dry(ish) Fridays or weekends. As far as skill level goes, I'm very back of the pack... averaging about 10 mph on the TTT bike course. I'm just pleased not to have to walk my bike up hills anymore :D . I live at the north end of Ridgetop, so I'm not very far away from you. I've found that Chico Way is a reasonable leisurely (except that one nasty hill...) short ride. I think if you park at the Red Apple and ride to Silverdale Way and back, it's about 8 miles (never thought I'd call an 8 mile ride short...).

I'm also signing up to do the Kitsap Color Classic ride organized by the Cascade cycling club out of Seattle (www.cascade.org). It's on October 4 and starts from 4 corners in Kingston (where the Albertson's is). It's cheap (about $20) to register. I would love to see lots of PINK there!

My email is ddmadenson@gmail.com if you (or anyone else) is interested in getting together to do some rides or whatnot.
